OUR NAPPIES
What's in our nappies
100% plant-based layers: Hypoallergenic, Dermatest Accredited, sustainably and ethically sourced materials, free from all harmful chemicals and irritants.
Wood Pulp: Certified FSC® wood pulp is a vital component of our plant-based absorbent core, which draws moisture into a soft, breathable centre.
Tissue Paper: Layers of tissue paper wrap our key absorbent components to keep them together in a natural shell, and lock wetness away to maintain up to 12-hours of dryness.
Super absorbent polymers (SAP): our high-quality absorbent polymers are another powerhouse in the absorbency of our non-toxic nappies.
Corn Starch: The 100% compostable PLA layer is made of a corn starch film that is an all-natural, water-resistant layer that works to disperse liquid and is an alternative to plastics you may find in traditional nappies.
Pure Cotton: Our USA Certified Organic Cotton back sheet is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified and delivers breathability whilst providing the structure and shape of our premium nappies. Our cotton waistband and leg cuffs ensure a comfortable fit for your little one.
Spandex: A small but efficient amount of spandex is incorporated into our leg cuffs ensuring a perfect fit to eliminate leaks and spills.
Our Plantcell Technology™
Our unique Plantcell Technology™ was developed to enhance absorbency and performance of our eco nappies. Harnessing the inherent natural properties of plant based materials, we have combined these materials in a way that wicks away more than 900ml of liquid, and traps it in our highly absorbent core with a dual seal system to draw moisture away from your babies skin. Non-GMO corn starch, 100% Organic Cotton and Certified FSC® Wood Pulp are the cornerstones of our incredible nappies.
CHEMICAL FREE AND PROUD
Our nappies are routinely independently tested to ensure they are free from all harmful chemicals and compounds, including PFAS, chlorine, fragrances, alcohol, parabens, phenols, pesticides, formaldehyde, carcinogenic and allergenic dyes and pthalates - protecting your mini from rashes, irritation, and discomfort.
SUPPLY CHAIN TRANSPARENCY
Our nappies include FSC Certified Wood Pulp, Compostable non-GMO Corn Starch, Tissue Paper and Certified Organic Cotton sourced from the United States, China and Japan. These raw materials are then consolidated and shipped to our New Zealand partner factory in China where our nappies are assembled and packaged into 100% Compostable Rice Paper packaging.
At this time, China is the only country that has the technology and capabilities to produce our premium eco nappies to the standards we require. Our partner factory are BRC Certified ensuring that our ethical production of goods and compliance standards are met.
BIODEGRADIBILITY
Based on our degradation testing, 93% of our nappy had completely biodegraded post use within a 3 month time frame. The remaining 7% being our tabs, cuffs and part of the frontal tape that for the time being require PE (polyethylene) for strength and flexibility did not degrade.
We continue to work with our supply chain to reimagine a 100% biodegradable nappy and have a target of 2027 to achieve this.

SUPPLY CHAIN TRANSPARENCY
Ecoriginals wipes are manufactured in New Zealand in a facility that operates from 100% renewable energy – that’s energy from a combination of wind farms, hydro stations and solar arrays.
We’re also proud to say that our nappy manufacture uses the recirculation of water so that not a single drop is wasted.
HOW TO COMPOST OUR WIPES
Our wipes can be composted at home with your veggie scraps and green waste. Simply place your wipe in with the worms – or dig it into your garden. But we recommend leaving the #2s for your biodegradable bin bags and your regular waste collection. A wonderful resource if you don’t have your own compost is Share Waste where you can sign up to share your compost bin, or find a home for your scraps. We’re also working towards linking our customers with a service option for your biodegradable waste.
TO FLUSH OR NOT TO FLUSH
We don’t recommend flushing our wipes. They are compostable and biodegradable however, have not been specifically designed for home sewage systems.

SUSTAINABILITY
BIODEGRADABILTIY
Based on our degradation testing, 93% of our nappy had completely biodegraded post use within a 3 month time frame. The remaining 7% being our tabs, cuffs and part of the frontal tape that for the time being require PE (polyethylene) for strength and flexibility did not degrade. We continue to work with our supply chain to reimagine a 100% biodegradable nappy and have a target of 2027 to achieve this.
Our wipes are proudly 100% biodegradable and are made in New Zealand in a manufacturing plant powered by renewable energy.
PLASTIC NEUTRAL
We are proudly Plastic Neutral, which is simply an extension of our commitment to the planet. For every gram of plastic in our products sold, we collect and recycle the equivalent amount of plastic via plastic bottle collection through our sustainability partner, Plastic Offset.
Plastic Offset build ethical recycling ecosystems that support local residents in coastal communities – creating a regenerative society where plastic pollution is recycled and reintroduced into the global supply chain as Social Plastic.
RECYCLING OUR PACKAGING
Our focus is on a zero waste economy, so our paper nappy packaging has been designed to biodegrade in home compost. Our cardboard cartons that our product is delivered in can be placed in with your paper recycling. Our nappy bags should be composted at home, or if you prefer re-use, then they can be repurposed as a bin liner and for your nappies and sent with your biodegradable waste. The starch coating on the interior of our nappy packaging makes them unsuitable for paper recycling, but the worms love it! And our wipes packs should be recycled wherever you return your soft plastics (for us it’s the local supermarket, but you may have a different situation).
HOW TO DISPOSE OF YOUR USED NAPPIES
For our nappies to biodegrade in the fastest possible time, we rely on you to dispose of your Ecoriginals nappies without enclosing and sealing them in plastic as this prohibits the process. We recommend using biodegradable bin liners to dispose of your nappies or alternatively wrapping them in newspaper or our nappy packaging as this is also 100% biodegradable.
